brown spotting 9 days before period is due?

ive had constant brown spotting since day 21, its now day 25 and it doesnt seem to be letting up any time soon. I didnt get any noticable signs of ovulation this month so im not really sure when i ovulated. i've tried googling and i cant really find anything on spotting this soon before a period is due. has anyone had this happen? i called the doctor on day 3 of spotting and they said to just wait it out and if it continues to call them next week. Thanks for any help you guys can give me!
