Cinnamon!

Other than the regular dose of Motrin or Advil I love cinnamon tea. Cinnamon is good to relieve any pain that hasn't gone away like the bloating or what not. Put a few sticks in some hot water let it boil, strain and drink....it taste good and it helps.

NSAIDs

Advil or any other NSAID. They are all anti-inflammatories and act as anti prostaglandins in your system. Prostaglandins cause your cervix / uterus to contract.

Herbs & Pain Killer

I have lucked into the following discoveries.

1) Advil LiquiGel. A little more pricey, but well worth it. Can be found generic if you shop around.

2) Take Iron, or more iron, in the week preceding and all through.

3) Take Dong Quai or Dong Quai with Black Cohosh, also starting in the week preceding. Not expensive, but shop around.

4) Another vote for Evening Primrose Oil.

5) Recently discovered Magnesium and it has really made an impact.

Motrin for Cramps

Motrin 800 are my best friend during that time. It relieves all my cramps. I usually get cramps like a day before my actual period. I don't always get the bloated thing...Thank God, but every now and then it happens, I just deal with it and wear looser pants...LOL!! It's just part of who we are as women.

Ibuprophin

Ibuprophin and plenty of it. It's cheaper than Midol and (for me) just as effective. Especially when I buy it in the humungus size at Sam's. I have giant bottles of it in the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms and less giant bottles in my desk at work and in my purse. I don't exactly eat them like candy, I eat plenty of that during my period anyway, but I'll take 3 200mg tabs every few hours. It helps a lot.

Drug-Free Options...

How about a drug-free approach? All PMS meds are pain reliever, caffeine and diuretics. No big secret. Instead, eat less salt, drink plenty of water, get more sleep, and do yoga stretches and excercises. Even though it seems like exercise would only emphasize the cramps it actually "works them out". A heating pad is another wonderful tool - or even those heat "patches" you can wear WHILE you work out! :) Good luck everyone...
